I’m Pete, the creator of Floral Math Works, and I’d like to share the story behind how it all began.
It started right at our kitchen table. During the pandemic, my wife and I decided to launch her home-based floral design studio just as I was retiring after more than 30 years as an engineer in the automotive industry.
She had the creative talent and business experience to make a go of it, with a background in administration, event planning, sales, floral design, and as a Master Gardener. But determining the right floral budgets and confidently pricing her floral arrangements, weddings, and events presented a new challenge.
I began working with her to find an efficient, straightforward, and dependable way to handle the numbers behind her designs. From the beginning, she used industry-standard floral pricing formulas, along with cheat sheets and a calculator, to determine her costs and selling prices.

Eventually, our process grew into spreadsheets. That made perfect sense to an engineer, but not necessarily to a busy florist. The spreadsheets were efficient and reliable, but they weren't always simple or convenient to use.
At the same time, we weren't looking for a large, all-in-one floral business software system. Her studio already had simple, affordable solutions for things like invoicing, mood boards, point-of-sale, and inventory management. We didn't want to replace tools that were already getting those jobs done or pay for additional software features we wouldn't use.
What we needed was something much more focused: straightforward tools for the financial side of floral design—pricing, costs, floral budgets, and profit.
That became the purpose of Floral Math Works. It isn't designed to run every part of a floral business. It's designed to do the pricing and profit math that wedding and event floral designers need, without adding unnecessary complexity or expense.
So, what began as a collection of spreadsheet formulas evolved into Floral Math Works—simple, straightforward, web-based pricing and profit tools developed from genuine experience inside a successful home-studio wedding and event floral design business.
